Why “Meditations”?

8/24/2022

 LESSONS THROUGH MY EXPERIENCES

The inspiration behind my “Meditations” section of writings is the late Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius.

Born April 26, 121 AD, Marcus Aurelius served as the ruler of the most powerful Empire at that time from 161-180 AD. Even with the immense responsibilities he was burdened with, he was a faithful follower of Stoicism and Stoic philosophy.

The goal of Stoicism is to find calm and peace no matter what may be going on around you. In a way, separating outside forces from inside forces (emotions).
One of the ways he was able to maintain his Stoic approach was by journaling. One of the more popular books in history is titled “Meditations”. This book is actually a series of personal writings that were never originally meant to be shared with the public. In reading what is essentially his diary, you are able to get a glimpse into the man’s head, his experiences, and his approach to life. You can feel his struggles and gain immense wisdom in this approach to problem solving and how he addressed issues during his rule.

In creating my own “meditations”, I guess I am trying to do a similar thing.

By no means am I trying to make a direct comparison between Marcus Aurelius and myself!

Not a chance.

Instead, these meditations will be little notes and lessons to myself that I have acknowledged and experienced along the way.

  1. A way for me to self reflect where I’ve been and where I am going.
  2. A way for my current family and future family to experience the journey along side me (and probably some things I don’t talk directly about).
  3. Hopefully help you on your journey.

Listen, we aren’t that unique.

Sure we all have one-of-a-kind genes, finger prints, etc.

But…

…the pain, struggles, frustrations, and setbacks I might be going through, there is a good chance you have (or will) experience a version of them yourself.

My goal is that these lessons and tidbits help you in your journey.
